Issued
in autumn 1971 the 'Jubiläums-Käfer' - Jubilee Beetle -
celebrated the 20 millionth Volkswagen produced. Available as a
Standard 1300 or 1302 S Super Beetle and painted Saturn
Yellow (13M). The package featured Sprintstar wheels, a heated
rear window, padded dashboard, reversing lights, fresh air
blower, wiper
delay switch with intermittent wash-wipe.
Also
included was a certificate and plaque. 15,000 produced.
1972 Marathon Beetle

5000 'Marathon Beetles'
where produced during 1972 to celebrate the
Beetles world record production figure of 15,007,034 - that car (a 1302)
subsequently
named the 'World Champion'. 'Marathon Beetles' were offered across all Beetle
models with special Marathon Metallic (metallic silver/blue, 96M) paint
and
silver and black sports wheels (Lemmertz made), part no. 000 071 475B, with
octagonal alloy centre caps.

Also included was a
commemorative folder 'History in the making',
a small certificate, keyring and souvenir gold coloured medallion with the
inscription
'Der Weltmeister 1972, Wolfsburg, Germany' both with a side view of a Beetle.

1972 'VW GT'

This
1302 S Super Beetle special edition was only available from the
Salzburg Porsche-Austria dealership. The car came in Silver,
with Black bonnet and engine lid, with the Austrian racing stripes
of narrow red on broad white, black 'waist' stripes.
Both doors carried the VW GT logo
with chequered flags on the
rear quarter panels.

The
1600 'GT' engine comprised modified heads and ports, with higher
compression and dual carbs, upping the power output to 65hp
and a top speed of 145km/hour. 210 sold. Inspired by the very successful

Gerhard Oettinger founded Okrasa (Oetttinger special parts and equipment) in 1951 to specialise in engine tuning.
